These terms apply only to machines having Zig-Zag capability. They may be in the form of either a knob or lever on the front of the machine. The needle position setting determines whether the needle is in center, left or right position for straight stitching or where it starts from for Zig-Zag stitching. The Stitch width control determines the width of the Zig-Zag stitch. When stitching with a twin needle one must be mindful not to allow the needle spacing plus the width setting to exceed the opening in the machine throat plate.
