Singer Rubber Mats

Singer introduced rubber mats "for treadle or portable machines" in Kilbowie price lists dated March 1939 (ie they do not feature in the May 1938 price list). The Hire Purchase Price was 3/- (three shillings), the cash price was 2/9d. The style of Singer logo used, differs over time.

The 'treadle mat' measures approx 9 3/8" x 12 1/8" (23.8cm x 30.8cm). The mat is fairly rigid. It has a number of rubber lugs on the reverse side to keep it in place on the treadle pedal. They were made in black and brown/tan.

A 'portable machine' mat is much more flexible (though they can go rigid and crack over time). It measures 19 3/4" x 8 3/8" (50cm x 21cm). It has no locating lugs on the reverse side. Made in black and brown/tan.
