Hook - On rotating and oscillating hook lock-stitch machines - The part of the shuttle mechanism that picks up the loop of thread formed by the needle movement, to pass the thread over the bobbin/shuttle assembly. On chain-stitch machines - The part of the chainstitch mechanism that is below the stitchplate that picks up the loop and twists it in to postion for the next stitch to be formed.
