The treadle reads Empress Toronto/New York/Chicago and the machine has an intriguing throat plate arrangement. It was invented by Charles A Dearborn, mainly known for his invention of a blindstitch mechanism, amongst other sewing machine patents to his name. In 1886 the company's capital was $100,000.
