000. Singer 12 Shuttle Threading

The top picture shows, the correct way to thread a Singer 12 shuttle. The thread needs to come off over the top of the bobbin before passing down and around the lower bar and up to the tension holes at the top. It should go through the hole nearest the blunt end of the shuttle first, then up and down as many times as is necessary to obtain a good stitch. (I have a feeling it should end up with coming out of the end hole nearest the pointed end of the shuttle, but no matter!). After, it must pass under the spring (that piece of metal at the top).

The lower shuttle has a broken spring. It 'may' work by threading in and out of the little holes. If the thread ends up inside the shuttle, it must come out of the slot towards the back.

An instruction manual is available.

The Singer 12 takes a 12x1 needle, which is a Boye 23.
