31K15 & MODEL DESCRIPTIONS

ED204471, 1942. The 31-15 has the same stitching mechanism and is similar to the 15-30, except the casting of the head and many of the parts are larger. Built for heavy duty (all day long sewing) and high speed. The advantage over the 16K was that it could be run at a higher speed and was fitted with knee lifter. The class 31 machines have a superior link take-up to the 16 / IM machines so are able to sew much faster. The 31-15 was popularly known as "The Tailor's Machine". Singer recommended not selling this machine to manufacturers, but only to tailors, department stores and other small establishments where only one or two machines were wanted. Fitted with a knee lever http://www.needlebar.org/cm/thumbnails.php?album=375 , ball bearing stand. A treadle table with both end and back leaves could be supplied, giving ample room for work. A Singerlight may be fitted to this machine. The 31 uses class 16 needles. You can use any of the following, e.g. 16x1, 16x87, 16x95, 16x257, 16x231.
