Harris "Boudoir" 1857

This is one of Daniel Harris' 1857 patents. The spool of thread is placed on the arm of the machine in this example. The machine makes a chain stitch and is usually found as a treadle, rather than with a crank as shown.

A picture of the underneath in Bays shows a plate with patent dates: the October 5 1858 patent doesn't only relate to a Daniel Harris sewing machine patent; it is the same day his Carpet Sweeper was also patented!
