28-9

Hand crank version of 28-8. Vibrating Shuttle machine, the three quarter sized version of the Singer 27. Characterized by a manual tension release, no shuttle eject button and a HIGH bobbin winder, pear shaped rear inspection plate. Shuttle requires a notch towards the tip to seat correctly in the shuttle carrier and function properly.
The 128, a modernized version of the 28 with automatic tension release, shuttle eject and a high bobbin winder was manufactured from 1912, but this popular and low cost family 28 continued to be produced until the 1940s in Kilbowie and until 1918 in Elizabethport.
See Identifying Singer VS Machines for further information, comparisons and Kilbowie variations.
