010. Gritzner R "Selecta"

#871522, c1901. The "Selecta" Vibrating Shuttle machine became the model R. This is an early example of the model with the typical Gritzner bird on the shoulder. The shuttle is ejected by means of the lever at the base of the pillar and the movable, velvet covered pincushion may be swiveled to keep the machine on its base. Both the stitch length indicator and bobbin winder went through several changes throughout production (see other examples in this album). It is the hand cranked version of this treadle machine. The top of the upright on the bobbin winder is distinctive. This popular VS model (or perhaps the company) went on to collect three awards at Expositions in France in 1900, Italy in 1906 and Germany in 1905. (If anyone sees these awards on other Gritzner models please drop a note to NB Forum). Known to have been also badged as Mosella.
